WE BEGIN WITH BREAKING NEWS. AND THAT BREAKING NEWS OUT OF NEVADA COUNTY TONIGHT. CREWS BATTLING A VEGETATION FIRE IN TRUCKEE. AND WE JUST OBTAINED THIS VIDEO THIS AFTERNOON. AND YOU CAN SEE A BALL OF FIRE THERE SHOOTING INTO THE AIR, ALONG WITH SOME THICK BLACK SMOKE. A SIGN THAT SOMETHING ELSE MIGHT BE BURNING OTHER THAN JUST VEGETATION IN THAT PARTICULAR AREA. THANKS FOR JOINING US TONIGHT AT 6:00. I’M GULSTAN DART AND I’M ANDREA FLOREZ. THE FIRE ALREADY PROMPTING EVACUATION WARNINGS. IT’S BEING CALLED THE PAST FIRE. IT STARTED THIS AFTERNOON BEHIND THE SAFEWAY SHOPPING CENTER ON DONNER PASS ROAD IN TRUCKEE. OFFICIALS TELL US IT IS BURNING BETWEEN THE SAFEWAY AND THE COYOTE MOON GOLF COURSE. AND THIS FIRE IS ALREADY PROMPTING SOME EVACUATION WARNINGS. HERE’S A LIVE LOOK AT THE EVACUATION MAP FOR THAT FIRE AREA RIGHT NOW. ALL THE AREAS IN YELLOW THERE, THOSE ARE EVACUATION WARNINGS AS OF RIGHT. THERE ARE NO MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDERS ISSUED. AND KCRA 3’S ANDRES VALLE JOINS US LIVE NOW FROM THE FIRE. SO, ANDRES, I CAN SEE CREWS BEHIND. YOU. WHAT ARE YOU SEEING OUT THERE? RIGHT NOW? YEAH. SO FAR, IT’S KIND OF A COMMAND CENTER THAT’S HERE IN THE PARKING LOT OF THAT SAFEWAY. IT’S A LITTLE BIT OF A SHOPPING CENTER TOO, BUT WE’VE BEEN WATCHING AERIAL ATTACKS FROM HELICOPTERS DROPPING WATER ALL ALONG THE FIRE. I DID JUST FINISH AN INTERVIEW WITH THE TRUCKEE FIRE DEPARTMENT MAYBE FIVE MINUTES AGO. AND HE SAYS THE FIRE GREW TO ABOUT THREE AND A HALF ACRES RIGHT NOW IT’S LOOKING TO BE ABOUT 20% CONTAINED AND. THEY HAVE CREWS HERE PRETTY MUCH FOR THE REST OF THE DAY INTO TONIGHT, TAKING CARE OF THE FIRE. THEY HAVE GROUND CREWS AND HAND CREWS ALONG THE FIRE LINE AGAIN. WE JUST ARRIVED HERE ABOUT 15 MINUTES AGO, SO WE’RE STILL GETTING SOME FRESH INFORMATION OUT TO YOU GUYS, BUT WE DO KNOW THAT IT BURNED A LITTLE BIT OF THAT GOLF COURSE. BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS FROM ACCORDING TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE WAY THE FIRE BURNED IT BURNED AWAY FROM THE SHOPPING CENTER. SO IT COULD HAVE BEEN PRETTY DANGEROUS, AT LEAST FOR SOME BUILDINGS TO CATCH FIRE HERE. BUT THE WINDS PUSHED IT UP THE. HILL, SO WE’LL BE MOVING OURSELVES OVER THERE TO CHECK OUT THE DAMAGE. LIVE HERE IN TRUCKEE. I’M ON THIS FIRE FOR KCRA THREE NEWS. ANDREA, THANK YOU SO MUCH. AND VIEWERS HAVE BEEN SENDING VIDEOS OF THE FIRE INTO OUR NEWSROOM. KYLIE PETERSON SENT US THIS VIDEO OF THE PAST FIRE. YOU CAN SEE THE SMOKE. THIS FIRE IS PUTTING UP HERE. SOME WHITE AND DARK SMOKE. KYLIE PETERSON ALSO SENDING US SOME VIDEO AND YOU CAN SEE A PLANE DROPPING THEIR FIRE RETARDANT THERE ON THE LEADING EDGE OF THE FLAMES. AND YOU CAN SEE JUST THE BILLOWING SMOKE THERE COMING OFF THIS FIRE, THE RED COLORED RETARDANT THERE DROPPING DOWN, TRYING TO STOP IT. AND THEN TAKE A LOOK AT THIS VIDEO WE HAVE HERE THIS IS FROM KEVIN LYMAN WHO SENT THIS IN ANOTHER VIEW OF THAT PLUME OF SMOKE. JUST KIND OF BOILING UP, BUILDING UP INTO THE SKY THERE. AND THE CREWS THERE AGAIN, DROPPING THAT RETARDANT. LET’S BRING IN METEOROLOGIST DIRK VERDOORN RIGHT NOW. SO DIRK, HOW DID THE WEATHER PLAY INTO ALL THIS? YEAH, THE BIGGEST, BIGGEST THING IS IT’S JUST SO DRY AGAIN CONDITIONS VERY DRY. WE’RE LOOKING AT HUMIDITIES THAT ARE CURRENTLY RANGING ABOUT 13 TO 15%. SO AGAIN DRY CONDITIONS WINDS NOT TOO BAD. THE TRAIN KIND OF DRIVING THE WINDS. RIGHT NOW THE WINDS ARE FAIRLY LIGHT BUT THEY’RE KIND OF COMING AT ALL DIRECTIONS. MOSTLY GOING UPHILL OR UPSLOPE AT THIS TIME. SO AGAIN JUST REALLY DRY CONDITIONS. THE WINDS FAIRLY LIGHT. BUT CONDITIONS ARE GOING TO COOL OFF EVEN MORE WITH TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW RANGING IN THE LOWER 70S. CLOUD COVER MOVING THROUGH ALSO HELPING TO KEEP THOSE TEMPERATURES DOWN. AND WE ARE LOOKING AT CONDITIONS THAT WILL CHANGE A LITTLE BIT AS WE HEAD INTO TOMORROW. SO THIS IS SOMETHING TO KEEP AN EYE ON AS WE HAVE A RED FLAG WARNING POSTED FOR TOMORROW. MOST OF THIS IS GOING TO BE ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE SIERRA. YOU CAN SEE AN ALPINE COUNTY AND MONO COUNTY ALSO IN THROUGH LASSEN COUNTY, AND THEN ACROSS NEVADA. WEST WINDS 20 TO 25MPH. GUSTS UP TO 35MPH. THAT’S GOING TO DRIVE HUMIDITIES DOWN. WE’RE LOOKING AT HUMIDITIES AS LOW AS 9% AS WE HEAD THROUGH TOMORROW AFTERNOON. SO HERE’S A LOOK AT THE TIMELINE OF THE WIND GUSTS. STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE DEVELOPING OVER THE CREST OF THE SIERRA. YOU’LL SEE THOSE AREAS OF ORANGE SHOWING UP. THAT’S WHERE WE’RE GOING TO HAVE THE WIND SPEEDS AT OR ABOVE 30MPH. SO THE WINDS WILL BE STRONG. ALSO IN THROUGH NEVADA. WE’LL SEE THOSE STRONG WINDS AND THOSE WINDS WILL TAPER OF

Pass Fire: Evacuation warnings in Truckee, multiple agencies respond

Evacuation warnings are in effect in Truckee due to a vegetation fire that started near a shopping center. The Truckee Fire Department said the fire started behind at the Safeway on Donner Pass Road. It is burning between the grocery stote and the Coyote Moon Golf Course on Northwoods Boulevard. “We’re already in the planning stages for nighttime and relief crews tomorrow. We really don’t want any fires. We don’t want this poking its head back up. We don’t want it growing getting any bigger, or anything like that. So we are going to be on scene overnight, and I would imagine the next day or two,” said Ryan Ochoa the battalion chief for Truckee Fire Protection District. An evacuation map from genasys Protect shows the evacuation warning zone covers the area north of Interstate 80, between Innsbruck Avenue and Truckee Way. See the map here. The fire spread to about 3 and a half acres and burned up to the Coyote Moon Golf Course. “We do have a hose line all the way around the fire, and multiple retardant drops and multiple aircraft were working on the fire as well. We did experience three spot fires up to a quarter mile away from the fire,” said Ochoa.A KCRA 3 crew is on the way to the scene to gather more information. | MORE |A 2024 guide for how to prepare for wildfires in CaliforniaHere are key websites that are important for all Californians during wildfire season.Cal Fire wildfire incidents: Cal Fire tracks its wildfire incidents here.
