Pistons’ Casey would be comfortable yet cautious inside bubble – Sportsnet.ca

Dwane Casey and his team won’t be involved in the NBA’s restart after going 20-46 and finishing 13th in the Eastern Conference, but the Detroit Pistons head coach said he “would be comfortable and cautious” being in the NBA bubble in Orlando.

Comfortable because he feels the league is going about things the right way. Cautious because we’re still seeing individuals testing positive for COVID-19, including a number of players throughout the league.

“I do know that the league is taking every precaution, talked to every specialist that they could to try to make it virus-proof,” Casey told Eric Smith and Paul Jones Wednesday on Sportsnet 590. “But in talking to people, I don’t know if there is such thing as virus-proof 100 per cent.”

On Tuesday night, Los Angeles Lakers guard Avery Bradley announced he is choosing to sit out the reminder of the season to be with his wife and three children, in large part due to the fact his six-year-old has a history of respiratory illness.

“I like what Avery Bradley has done,” Casey said. “He has a child with a compromised immune situation that you could take it back to him or compromise your family and I respect that by those players but I do know that the league has done everything possible to make it as safe as possible for everybody involved, everybody that’s going down there to be in the bubble.

“The key thing is guys complying with the rules, with the situation, to make sure it stays safe because it takes one guy that’s not responsible, one person not responsible down there then then you compromise everybody.”

Casey also shared his thoughts on the NBA playoff format, how he has handled a life social distancing these past several months, and how he views the recent protests of racial injustice and calls for social change.
