Pitso Mosimane has missed out on another title as Al Ahly succumbed to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Tala’ea El Gaish in the Egyptian Super Cup on Tuesday.
This is the second successive trophy that Mosimane and Al Ahly missed out on after having surrendered their league title to Zamalek in late August.
Al Ahly went into the encounter at Borg El Arab Stadium as strong favourites to beat El Gaish and lift the trophy.
And that’s because they had reached the final on 14 occasions before – lifting the trophy 11 times and losing just three of those finals.
However, they were given a run for their money by El Gaish who held them to a goalless draw after 90 minutes of football.
The match then went into extra time but neither side could find the winner after the extra 30 minutes as El Gaish forced the outcome of the encounter to be decided on penalties.
Al Ahly could only convert two of their five spot-kicks with Mohamed Sherif missing the fifth penalty which would have made the scoreline 3-3.
The other two players who missed for Al Ahly are Badr Benoun and Mohamed Magdy.
