QUETTA:

Prime Minister Imran Khan reached Quetta on Friday for a day-long visit to chair a meeting called to asses the damage caused by the recent rains and floods in Balochistan.

The prime minister will also be reviewing relief activities and development projects concerning the province.

Upon his arrival to Quetta, the premier met with Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan. The two discussed the overall situation in the province as well matters related to development.

He is accompanied by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri and Chairman National Disaster Management Authority Lt. General Muhammad Afzal.

Members of the provincial cabinet will also call on the prime minister.

Last week, the prime minister, on his visit to Karachi, announced a development package of Rs1.1 trillion for the metropolis under its transformation plan in the wake of recent unprecedented heavy rains leaving the infrastructure of the metropolis in tatters and its civic agencies struggling to mitigate the woes of its residents.

Around Rs572 billion was said to be spent on the city’s mass transit system and rail and road transport systems.

This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
