The first of two Vande Bharat trains, sanctioned for Kerala, would be signaled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Thiruvananthapuram on April 25.
Modi will arrive in Kochi on April 24 to take part in a program titled ‘YuVAM’ where he will interact with around 1 lakh youth and the state BJP is running a high level campaign to make it a huge success.
The Vande Bharat train has 16 modern carriages and will have uninterrupted services.
The Railways will conduct a trial on the Thiruvananthapuram-Kannur section on April 22. Railway sources told IANS that the increase in tracks and the modernization of the signaling system are being carried out on a war footing.
Due to the nature of the tracks in Kerala, the speed is limited to 110 km per hour instead of the 180 km per hour that the train can travel.
The Kerala government’s ambitious semi-high-speed rail project, K-Rail, has been aborted and the BJP hopes to score points against the CPI-M-led Left Front on this issue.
Speaking to IANS, BJP National Executive Member and Chairman of the Railway Passenger Services Committee PK Krishnadas called the Vande Bharat trains a gift from Vishu to the people of Kerala by the Narendra Modi government.
