PM Morrison to ‘lend Australia’s weight’ to finding COVID-19 origins at G7 summit

Scott Morrison says he will “lend Australia’s weight” to growing calls for a more independent WHO, insisting understanding the cause of COVID-19 has “nothing to do with politics”.

Mr Morrison addressed the nation at a major foreign policy speech ahead of his trip to Cornwall for the G7 summit.

“Our discussions at Cornwall will focus on the need to do more to prevent a pandemic like COVID-19 happening again,” he said.

“I strongly support President Biden’s recent statement that we need to bolster and accelerate efforts to identify the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It remains Australia’s firm view that understanding the cause of this pandemic has nothing to with politics.”
