KARACHI:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nihal Hashmi and his two sons were arrested for abusing and assaulting police officials late Friday night in Karachi.

Naseer Nihal, the son of the PML-N leader, was driving in Malir’s Saudabad area when he was involved in a traffic collision with a motorcyclist, sparking an argument between the two.

After local police arrived on the scene, the son of the PML-N leader had an argument with law enforcement officials and he was taken to the nearest police station.

Police officials said that when they intervened, Naseer was arguing with another individual and when police officials were sent by the area SHO, Rana Haseeb, Naseer hurled abuse and threatened the police.

After Naseer was detained, the PML-N leader and his wife reached the police station. Police added that leniency was shown to the former PML-N senator, but his sons continued to be abusive. They then physically assaulted the police officials present and also tore their uniforms.

After the incident, Nihal was also arrested by the police, said SSP Saudabad.

A first information report (FIR) was also registered against the PML-N leader and his sons for assaulting police, abusing them, hurling death threats, interfering in government protocol and threatening to attack the police station.

PML-N workers later gathered outside the station to protest.
