Police searching for missing pensioner launch murder probe after man, 52, dead

Police have launched an investigation after a body was found that they believe is linked to the disappearance of an elderly man. Officers were called to a farm near Newark in Nottinghamshire on Saturday and discovered a 52-year-old man’s body in an outbuilding.

While the death is not being treated as suspicious, it is believed to be linked to the disappearance of Brian Wright, 82. Mr Wright went missing on November 20, and detectives have launched a murder investigation after they received intelligence indicating he was dead. Nottinghamshire Police have since sent search teams to the area.

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those affected by this tragic incident.

“An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this death is ongoing. However, I’d like to reassure members of the community that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

“At this early stage, we believe all parties to be known to each other and there is no wider threat to the public. We would also ask the public to respect the privacy of family members at what is an incredibly difficult time for them.

“They are being supported by specially trained officers. We have also referred ourselves to the IOPC – a mandatory step because of officers’ previous contact with family members.”

People with concerns have been urged to speak to officers on duty who remain in the area as they carry out inquiries.

Anyone with information has been urged to call 101, quoting incident number 193 of 22 November 2025, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
