A popular restaurant in Hull has been forced to close after nearly two decades in business. The Kuchnia Polish restaurant, located on Beverly Road, is known for serving delicious traditional meals and for being the first to introduce an Eastern European food spot to the city.
The restaurant owned by culinary couple Anna and Maciej Godyn has a near-perfect 4.7 out of 5-star rating on Google, with customers praising everything from its food and drink selection to service and decor.
Unfortunately, the owners have made the sad decision to close the restaurant, citing skyrocketing costs, rising business rates, and other industry-wide pressures.
Amid their determination to take up new jobs outside the food trade, the couple said they had been moved to tears by the reaction of their loyal customers to the news, reports Hull Live.
Ms Godyn said: “Hospitality is going down right now, with the economy right now. Gas and electric bills are all going so high and everything has changed. And we are tired as well. We have been here 19 years – you feel like you have to work 24 hours every day.
The co-owner also said that the couple would like more time to themselves, though they understand that it will be challenging.
She added: “We’ve seen restaurants near us close too – it’s the economy. I put something on Facebook about the closure and when I read it I was crying – they don’t want us to close and I have lots of messages from the customers that are making me cry. All my young life I have spent here in the restaurant. It’s like my second house.”
The couple now plan to try and find new jobs to ensure their livelihood is not affected.
Kunchnia Restaurant will open for the final time on Saturday, February 28, and Ms Godyn hopes many customers will come in to enjoy a final meal with them.
