The police in the Eastern Cape are investigating an inquest after the death of a man in Port St Johns on Saturday, 25 September. Eyewitnesses reportedly saw the man drive off the cliff near the airstrip on top of Mount Thesiger above the Wild Coast town shortly before 9:00.
ANOTHER CAR PLUNGES OFF PORT ST JOHNS CLIFF
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Sergeant Kaya Matola-Mvanyashe said the deceased, Zukisa Nkosiyaphantsi, allegedly drove off the airstrip cliff in Port St Johns at 8:50 on Saturday.
“…five people were at the cliff taking photographs when the man got into his car and started it,†said Matola-Mvanyashe.
The vehicle fell down the cliff face and it reportedly took several hours for the police’s Search and Rescue members to retrieve the 32-year-old’s body.  The police spokesperson said the deceased was from Port St Johns.
Local detectives are investigating an inquest docket.                                       Â
In an unrelated matter, the bodies of four people were retrieved from the bottom of the same cliff after their car plunged in February 2019. At the time, it was said to be the third time a vehicle was found at the bottom of the cliff.
Two years before that, in May 2017, the bodies of a missing couple was found at the bottom of the cliff in the wreckage of the white BMW X5 they were travelling in.
