Power outages hit various parts of Pakistan | The Express Tribune

Power outages have been reported in various parts of the country, confirmed K-Electric (KE) spokesperson Imran Rana on Thursday.

He said that KE is “investigating the issue” and will provide updates on the situation on his official Twitter handle.

Initially, Rana confirmed that there are multiple outages being reported in different parts of Karachi.

He was responding to Journalist Ghazanfar Abbas, who claimed that the power supply has been suspended in the 500 KV system across the country, according to sources at the National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC).

“The reasons are still being ascertained,” he tweeted.

Rana maintained that these outages “include KE territory”.

The Ministry of Energy also confirmed the development through its official Twitter handle. It stated that there has been “an accidental fault” in the country’s electricity transmission system.

The ministry said that several southern power plants are “tripping” in phases, which is disrupting the transmission of electricity in the southern part of the country.

It added that they are “diligently investigating the cause of the fault” and that the power system will be fully restored as soon as possible.
