Victoria has recorded its highest number of new coronavirus cases since early April, with only four cases linked to known outbreaks.
Support for Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ handling of the coronavirus pandemic has fallen as the state battles to stop a second wave outbreak of the virus.
While 72 per cent of Victorians still believed Mr Andrews was handling the pandemic well, support for the Premier has slipped 13 points since April, a Newspoll conducted for The Australian revealed.
The number of Victorians who believed he was doing “very well†dropped from 52 per cent to 31 per cent, while those who thought he was doing “very badly†almost tripled from 5 per cent to 13 per cent.

The Newspoll surveyed 2949 voters across six states and showed a high level of trust in the state premiers’ abilities to keep people safe through the crisis.
Support for South Australian Premier Steven Marshall’s handling of COVID-19 rose five percentage points, while support for Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein also increased.
Support for West Australian Premier Mark McGowan dropped from 94 per cent to 93 per cent.
Victorians’ overall satisfaction with Mr Andrews also fell from 75 per cent to 67 per cent.
It’s been a tough past month for the Victorian leader after corruption and branch-stacking allegations were levelled against the Victorian Labor Party.
