Prime EU faculty terminates professor’s contract over sexual harassment claims

“With this e-mail, I want to inform you that the contractual relation between the School of Europe and Prof. Olivier Costa has been terminated right this moment,” Federica Mogherini, the rector of the School of Europe and a former EU Excessive Consultant for Overseas Affairs and Safety, wrote to workers and college students on Wednesday in an e-mail seen by POLITICO.

In her e-mail, Mogherini didn’t specify the explanation for Costa’s termination. 

When contacted by POLITICO, Costa, now the previous director of the division of European political and governance research, declined to remark. 

A School of Europe committee determined in February the professor couldn’t proceed his roles on the Bruges campus after he was discovered to be in violation of the college’s code of conduct by sexually harassing a present scholar.

It was then as much as Mogherini to behave on the committee’s ruling. When reached by POLITICO for remark, Mogherini mentioned: “Sorry, we can not remark as we’re certain to confidentiality and [General Data Protection Regulations].”
