London: Britain’s Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, announced on Monday that they were expecting their third child.
The couple’s two sons, August, 5, and Ernest, 2, were “very excited” to welcome a new sibling to the family, and King Charles III was “delighted” with the news, the palace said.
Eugenie, the younger daughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, was set to give birth this northern summer, Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
Charles is the older brother of the former prince Andrew, and Eugenie’s uncle.
The princess, 36, posted a photo on Instagram of her two sons holding an ultrasound photo, captioned: “Baby Brooksbank due 2026!”
The baby will be 15th in line to the throne – overtaking the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward – and the fifth grandchild of Mountbatten-Windsor and Ferguson.
Eugenie married Brooksbank at Windsor Castle in 2018. The princess posted a photo of the couple on Instagram in October last year with the message: “Happy Anniversary … 7 years and counting!”
