Protesters have gathered outside a building site in Melbourne’s east where two workers were assaulted on Tuesday.
Police are on the scene on Toorak Rd, Hawthorn East, where a Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union (CFMMEU) protest involving about 250 people is taking place.
Police will remain at the site to ensure community safety.

CFMMEU spokeswoman Jan Meehan said the two workers injured on Tuesday were union officials and had given notice about their visit to the site.
The CFMMEU said the protest was supported by the Building Industry Group, which is made up of a number of industry unions.
“They want to make a statement that all union officials should be able to go about their jobs without fear of being brutally and cowardly assaulted,†Ms Meehan said.
