Qatar Airways resumes flights to Algiers

Nov 13, 2020

Qatar Airways has announced it is resuming services to Algiers, Algeria, Kyiv, Ukraine, and other cities, as well as increasing flights to the preexisting US destinations in its network.

The Doha-based airline will resume services to Algiers with two weekly flights Friday. It will also resume flights to Kyiv, the Georgian capital of Tblisi, Seychelles, Miami and other destinations throughout November and December. Qatar Airways is also increasing the number weekly flights to New York and Chicago starting Saturday, the airline said in a press release Wednesday.

Qatar Airways was unique among Gulf carriers in that it never stopped regularly scheduled passenger flights in 2020 amid the coronavirus crisis. Qatar’s flagship airline did suspend many of its routes, however, and has been gradually resuming them for several months. Qatar Airways has also flown many repatriation flights and humanitarian aid flights throughout the year.

Doha is a major international transit hub. Qatar Airways currently offers services to more than 100 airports, the airline said in the release.

Qatar Airways has struggled financially with the downturn in global travel resulting from the virus, as have other Gulf airlines, such as Emirates in Dubai. Qatar Airways cut hundreds of jobs in May.
