Rafael Leao signs a new contract with Milan

Raphael Leo has signed a new five-year contract with AC Milan.

The 23-year-old, who joined Milan from Lille in August 2018, has been rewarded for helping his team advance to the semi-final stage of the Champions League.

He also played a key role last season. A league title win: the first time Milan have lifted the Scudetto since 2011.

Milan have moved to lock Leao to a new contract until June 2028, as his most recent contract at the San Siro was due to expire in June 2024.

Leao is doubtful due to injury for AC Milan’s Champions League semi-final first leg against city rivals Inter de Milan.

He suffered a right thigh injury in the first 11 minutes of his team’s 2-0 league win over Lazio on Saturday.

Leao returned to training on Tuesday but worked separately from his teammates, and Milan manager Stefano Pioli admitted he will wait until closer to kick-off to make a decision on his participation in the first leg.

“Tomorrow (Wednesday) he will try to do his best to understand if he can participate in the match,” Pioli said.

“If I summon him it will be because he is fit to play. If the tests are okay, it might even start.”

Leao, who has been international 18 times with Portugalhe has scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists in 44 games for Milan so far this season.
