Coach Sean McVay said after practice that he did not know what Kupp’s status was and, at the time, had not yet spoken to the athletic training staff about the situation.
“I saw that it looked like he had gotten a little bit close to a red zone route, and then I know they told me he was out for practice,” McVay said. “I don’t have any more information than that.”
Kupp, 30, missed the second half of the 2022 season after spraining a high ankle and then underwent a tightrope procedure to repair it. He also missed the spring OTAs, but was fully practicing at the start of training camp.
The Rams receivers behind Kupp have also dealt with injuries this spring and summer. van jefferson He battled knee injuries and has had several rest days in the first week of training camp as an added precaution. Ben Skowronek he missed practice Tuesday with back pain.
“I hope he’s okay,” McVay said of continuing to practice in Kupp’s absence. “But I mean, we have to be able to go practice. Guys have to be able to step up. Obviously, we’re much better when he’s here, and you hope he’s okay. But if he’s not, we’ll see what happens. Practice had to go on and that’s what happened today.”
