Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

  1. Severe thunderstorms with strong damaging winds and hail are likely in places along the escarpment and Lowveld areas of Mpumalanga and Limpopo in the afternoon and early evening.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

  1. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the northern part of the Northern Cape, extreme western and southern parts of the North-West as well as the Tswelopele and Masilonyana municipalities of Free State.

Temperature and UBV forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Fine in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Cloudy with morning fog in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm but hot in the south-west with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers but scattered along the escarpment.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south-east.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Fine and hot but partly cloudy in the east with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme east.

Free State:

Temperature: Fine and warm to hot but partly cloudy in the east with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme east.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy along the coast in the morning, otherwise fine and warm to hot but very hot in the north.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy to partly cloudy in the early morning along the south coast and eastern interior, otherwise fine and warm to hot with high level clouds.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly but light and variable along the south coast in the morning.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half – Temperature: Partly cloudy and cool to warm, becoming fine over the interior.

The Western half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly, becoming light to moderate easterly to north-easterly by the evening.

The Eastern half – Temperature: Partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east, becoming fine north of the escarpment in the afternoon.

The Eastern half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly, becoming light to moderate easterly to north-easterly by the evening.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool but warm in the north with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-westerly, becoming south-easterly in the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Low.
