Rep. kate porter (D-Calif.) had a brief sharp response to a foxnews reporter who came up with a question about the unexpected root canal procedure that president Joe Biden suffered earlier this week.
Hillary Vaughn pointed out to Porter how Biden “had to take time off work” for treatment, then seemed to further the right-wing talking point that Biden is unfit for office when she asked: “Do you think he has the stamina for a second period?”
Porter, without missing a beat, replied, “Have you ever had a root canal?”
The moment went viral on Twitter, racking up millions of views.
Porter, who is running for a Senate seat next year, later shared a video of the exchange.
He wished Biden a “speedy recovery.”
Biden missed a scheduled appearance at a college athletes event at the White House on Monday and rescheduled a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg for Tuesday.
He was not anesthetized, so the power of the presidency was not temporarily transferred to Vice President Kamala Harris.
Biden was fully back at work Tuesday and even joked about his root canal treatment with Stoltenberg. “I apologize for having to reschedule yesterday,” the president said. “I had a lot of fun yesterday afternoon. I had a little toothache problem which they took care of”.
The procedure to remove the inflamed and/or infected pulp inside the tooth may have been painful decades ago, the American Association of Endodontists he acknowledges on his website, but modern techniques now mean “you won’t experience any more pain than if you had a cavity filled.”
