Report: MLB won’t counter union’s 70-game proposal – Sportsnet.ca

Major League Baseball will not counter the Players Association’s proposal for a 70-game season, according to Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich of The Athletic.

The league will talk with owners this weekend to discuss possible options to move forward.

The union’s latest proposal came Thursday and was immediately rejected by commissioner Rob Manfred.

Manfred met with union head Tony Clark in Arizona for about five hours Tuesday, and MLB said Wednesday that they had reached a framework for the season. The union disputed that, saying it was merely another proposal.

That plan included a 60-game regular-season schedule that would have $1.48 billion in salaries plus a $25 million players’ post-season pool. The union proposal would have included $1.73 billion in salaries, plus a $50 million post-season pool.
