Report: Nets not planning to trade Durant, at least for now

The Brooklyn Nets are telling teams they are not planning to trade star forward Kevin Durant before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, but still are having ongoing discussions about the direction of the franchise, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

The Nets are one of the teams in the trade spotlight following Monday’s deal to ship disgruntled star guard Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks.

Irving asked to be traded after he was unable to reach a contract extension with the Nets, who then dealt him and Markieff Morris to the Mavericks for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith and three draft picks.

Last summer, Durant asked to be traded — but no deal was reached.

Wojnarowski says the 13-time All-Star was interested in going to the Phoenix Suns in the summer.

The Nets host the Suns on Tuesday, but Durant is out with a knee injury.

Durant is averaging 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists this year.

The Nets (32-31) are fifth in the Eastern Conference.

Watch the Nets-Suns game at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet ONE or SN NOW.

The game marks the return of Suns star Devin Booker, who has been out since Dec. 25 with a groin injury.
