Reported coronavirus cases statewide have almost doubled since the last report on June 29.
The number on July 27 came in at 2,096 reported cases, which is 945 more than the number on June 29. That’s an increase of 82%.
In the 10 communities covered by The Sun Chronicle, reported cases decreased from 56 to 53 in the week ending July 27.
The communities are: Attleboro, North Attleboro, Foxboro, Mansfield, Norfolk, Norton, Plainville, Rehoboth, Seekonk and Wrentham.
From June 10-16, there were 53 reported cases. The last 25 weeks statewide the number has gone from 4,999 to 2,096 cases.
In the week ending July 27, no local communities reported zero cases.
There were 285 coronavirus tests administered by medical professionals in the The Sun Chronicle area, with 53 positives.
That’s an increase of 71 tests from the 214 recorded last week.
Many positive cases found through home-testing are not reported to health officials and many people who become ill with COVID-like symptoms now don’t even bother with home testing.
For context, the highest number of new cases statewide for one week was recorded on Jan. 14, 2022, at 132,557.
The highest number locally for one week was 3,463 recorded on Jan. 13, 2022. All told, since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, the area has recorded 51,198 cases, roughly 25% of the population in the 10 communities.
In the week ending July 27 the case counts in each of the 10 communities were Attleboro, 15; Foxboro, 8; Mansfield 11; Norfolk, 1; North Attleboro, 4; Norton, 2; Plainville, 2; Rehoboth, 3; Seekonk, 2; Wrentham, 5.
Statewide, the number of cases were 2,096 confirmed cases with 690 probable cases.
The number of confirmed deaths statewide for the week of July 27 was eight and the number of probable deaths was one.
A recent poll for the 10 communities covered by The Sun Chronicle reported the total number of deaths at 520. That’s a death rate of just over 1%.
Death totals per community covered by The Sun Chronicle are: Attleboro, 199; Foxboro, 29; Mansfield, 44; Norfolk, 8; North Attleboro, 96; Norton, 18; Plainville, 22; Rehoboth, 23; Seekonk, 15; Wrentham, 66.
Most of the deaths caused by the virus are people over the age of 65.
