Revel in rhythms of the world at Wembley Park’s free dance party

For this summer’s hottest dance event make magic on the dance floor in the heart of Wembley Park, north London, this Bank Holiday Saturday (August 29). There’s five back-to-back dance sessions – Latin, Caribbean, Afro and Bollywood – plus a Michael Jackson birthday celebration and a Grand Finale party. It all happens with at from 12pm – 5pm at Samovar Space, just off Wembley’s iconic Olympic Way. Possibly best of all this is a way to learn the moves and then take part in other events, those days of watching from the side lines could be over.

Celebrating community, music and movement, Speaker Box Street Party is offers an unforgettable afternoon with live DJs and street performance in the north west London neighbourhood known for culture and entertainment. All sessions are beginner-friendly, inclusive and adaptable, so everyone can participate at their own pace. The sessions include:

12pm – Latin Social Session leader Simonetta will introduce Latin social dance through salsa, bachata and merengue. The workshop will cover basic salsa steps, bachata side steps, simple turns, partner work and rhythmic hip movements set to music such as “Vivir Mi Vida” by Marc Anthony, “Suavemente” by Elvis Crespo and “La Vida Es un Carnaval” by Celia Cruz.

1pm – Caribbean Vibes Dance leader Sherry will lead a joyful Caribbean-inspired workshop combining soca, reggae and dancehall influences. Participants will learn carnival-style steps, waist movements, rhythmic footwork, body isolations and a short sequence that allows everyone to add their own personality. Featured artists and songs may include Kes, Machel Montano, Bob Marley and “Could You Be Loved.”

2pm – Afro Celebration Session leader Simon will guide an energetic celebration combining Afrobeats, Afro-dance and Amapiano influences. Attendees will explore expressive grooves, shoulder and chest movements, rhythmic footwork and popular African social-dance steps before bringing everything together in a group sequence. Featured music may include “Calm Down” by Rema, “Jerusalema” by Master KG featuring Nomcebo Zikode and “Love Nwantiti” by CKay.

3pm – Bollywood Grooves Sessions leaders Srishti, Bushu and Sangeeth will combine traditional Bollywood expression and storytelling with contemporary Indian dance and Bhangra-inspired movement. Participants will learn expressive hand gestures, energetic footwork and an accessible group routine suitable for all ages and abilities. Featured music may include “Jai Ho,” “Kala Chashma” and “Gallan Goodiyaan,” alongside songs from popular Bollywood films.

4pm – Michael Jackson Birthday Celebration A special birthday tribute celebrating Michael Jackson’s music, movement and extraordinary dance legacy, session leader Tyrone will break down some of Michael’s most recognisable moves including signature poses, sharp isolations, the side glide and elements inspired by the moonwalk and “Thriller” choreography. The mini workshop will lead into a dance showcase performed by the Speaker Box team, followed by an opportunity for the audience to join the dancers in a shared Michael Jackson routine. Featured songs may include “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” “Thriller,” “Smooth Criminal,” “The Way You Make Me Feel” and “Black or White.”

4.40PM – Grand Finale Party The Grand Finale will bring all the session leaders, dancers and participants together for one final open-air celebration capturing the theme of One World, One Dancefloor. DJs will revisit music from across the afternoon, moving between Latin, Caribbean, Afrobeats, Bollywood and Michael Jackson classics with attendees encouraged to return to their favourite moves, follow the instructors or simply enjoy the music in their own way.

Guests can also make a full day of it with the Wembley Park Summer Market, taking place next door in Market Square where they can browse handmade crafts, plants, gifts and treats, or stop for coffee and street food between dance sessions.
