SAN ANTONIO — Fresh off a record-breaking performance at the Sam Golden Invitational, the UTSA women’s golf team will travel to Wisconsin for the Badger Invitational, which will be played Sunday-Tuesday, September 17-19 at University Ridge Golf Course (par 72). . /6,248 yards).

The Roadrunners will make their inaugural trip to America’s Dairyland to compete against Augusta, Colorado State, Delaware, East Tennessee State, Indiana, Iowa, New Mexico State, North Florida, Rutgers, Sam Houston, South Florida, UC Davis, Wisconsin and Yale in the 54-hole stroke play event.

The course will play 18 holes starting at 9 am each day.

UTSA is coming off a record-breaking effort at the season-opening Sam Golden Invitational Monday-Tuesday in Corinth, Texas. Led by Daniela Abonce’s 12-under second-place finish, the Roadrunners broke the school record for best team score to finish third at Oakmont Country Club (par 72/6,413 yards).

A day after shooting rounds of 6-under 282 and a school-record 13-under 275, the Roadrunners concluded the 54-hole event at 8-under 280, putting them at 27-under 837 for the week. That total bested the previous school standard of 10-under 854 recorded at the 2019 Conference USA Championship by 17 strokes.

Individually, Abonce shared second place with Nicole Abelar of Houston and Allyn Stephens of Tulsa, as all three shot 204. The sophomore from Veracruz, Mexico, shot three consecutive 4-under 68s en route to the second-best 54-hole score in program history. behind Camryn Carreon’s 14-under 202 at the Trinity Forest Invitational last spring.

Morgan Ellison and Camryn Carreon added top-20 finishes to help the Roadrunners start the season on a positive note. Ellison finished in a tie for 13th at 7-under 209 (68-70-71), her best score in 54 holes as a Roadrunner by seven strokes. Carreon, a senior from San Antonio, took 19th place at 5-under 211 (74-68-69).

Freshman Maria Bastarrica tied for 45th at 2-over 218 (72-71-75) in her UTSA debut, while sophomore Olivia Williams rounded out the lineup at 54th at 4-over 220 ( 79-69-72).
