Rohit Sharma is set to lead the India team in another ICC tournament, but this is not an ordinary one as more than a billion cricket fans await the next World Cup trophy. Like his predecessor Virat Kohli, the India team under the management of Rohit Sharma has not been successful in winning any ICC tournament. Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Malik made some harsh comments about Rohit Sharma, stating that despite being a brilliant batsman, Rohit Sharma “gets paralyzed during the captaincy”.
“Once upon a time there was a guy who would take the pressure of the whole team on himself – that was Dhoni. Only a captain can protect the whole team behind him.” Rohit He’s a great guy, but he freezes up during the captaincy, he panics. These may be harsh words, but I don’t think he should have taken the captaincy,” Shoaib Akhtar said during a conversation on ‘Backstage With Boria’.
“Even Virat Kohli is not as talented as him. The time that he has and the shots that he can play… he’s a classic hitter, but was he made for the captaincy? I question myself most of the time. Does he react well in most critical situations? I ask myself. You should also question it,” added the former pacemaker.
Clash between India and Pakistan
Shoaib Akhtar even talked about high voltage India vs Pakistan clash and said the pressure is on India as Pakistan has nothing to lose. “Not for the faint of heart. If you’re brave enough, it’s your platform. If you are a coward or if you are insecure, this match is not for you,” she said.
“From day one I have been saying that Pakistan should go to India and play where they are asked. There was never a question of not traveling to India. Let’s face the truth. India generates the most money for world cricket and ICC actually uses the money, which comes from India. It is that money, which is then given to us in Pakistan, that helps finance our domestic cricket. So, in a way, it is Indian money that is helping our cricket. So there is no reason why we should not travel to India and play in front of packed Indian crowds,” Akhtar said.
