Heavy hitter Sunil Gavaskar feels that woefully out-of-form India and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma should take a break from the IPL and instead prepare in earnest for the upcoming World Test Championship final ( WTC) against Australia.
Gavaskar believes that Rohit’s confidence has taken a hit after a prolonged run of poor scoring in the T20 league.
Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar said: “I would say that Rohit should perhaps take a break for the time being and keep fit for the World Test Championship final.
“He can come back for the last few games, but right now, (he should) take a breather.”
The WTC final is scheduled to take place at the Oval in London from June 7-11.
Rohit’s barren run with Willow continued as Chennai super kings broke a 13 year old homemade curse against Bombay Indians with a six wicket easy win at the Chepauk on Saturday.
The Indian captain’s horrible run in the IPL since the last edition continued as he was unable to upset the scorer for the second straight match, leading MI to settle for a sub-par 139 of eight against CSK.
It was a forgettable outing for the Mumbai Indians and the biggest setback for them was the current form of their boss, who was sent off in the powerplay for the eighth time in this edition of the league.
