Ronald Koeman does Barcelona a favour and leaves Frenkie de Jong out of latest Netherlands squad

Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has quite rightly opted to leave Frenkie de Jong out of his national team squad for October’s Nations League games.

De Jong is finally back to fitness after a lengthy spell out with an ankle injury that saw him miss Euro 2024 with the Dutch squad.

The midfielder made his comeback as a substitute in the midweek win over Young Boys and is expected to feature again at Alaves on Sunday, potentially off the bench once more.

De Jong will then get a break and be able to work on his fitness over the international break, with Koeman not calling him up to his latest roster.

The Netherlands are due to play Hungary and Germany over the next few weeks in the Nations League, with De Jong set to watch the matches from back home in Barcelona.

The Catalans then return to action against Sevilla in La Liga in game which could see De Jong make his first start of the season.
