Royal AM president Shauwn Mkhize has vowed to fight until the bitter end for her team to be promoted to the Premiership.
A vow to fight on
Royal AM finished the season on top of the National First Division but the Premier Soccer League awarded Sekhukhune United three points after Polokwane City were found guilty of contravening the rules of the GladAfrica Championship earlier in the season.
The ongoing wrangling on this issue looks set to delay the promotion-relegation playoff and possibly even the 2021/22 Premiership and NFD seasons.
Royal AM will not give up
Mkhize insists that even if the arbitration proceedings, which are set to conclude on Saturday, don’t go their way, Royal AM will continue the legal battle.
“I apologise for arriving late. I had to run from the hearing, fighting for our cup as I believe we won on the field fairly and we (are) on top, now others want to win in the court,†Mkhize said.
“Whatever happens, we are champions. If we don’t win the case, the league won’t start on time.â€
The acting CEO of the Premier Soccer League, Mato Madlala , speaking at an eThekwini Municipality gala dinner on Friday to celebrate the successful seasons for AmaZulu, Golden Arrows and Royal AM, confirmed that the decision would be announced on Saturday 12 June.
“I know the media wants to know the latest on the case. We don’t know and we will know tomorrow,†Madlala said.
The issue in part stems from the breach of rules by Polokwane City, but the PSL, triggered this debacle when they opted to appeal their own Disciplinary Committee’s not to award the match points to Sekhukhune United.
Royal AM revealed this week that they had engaged the services of high-profile Advocate Dali Mpofu, known for his former role as the National Chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters and also his work representing Kagiso Rabada in his challenge against an ICC suspension in 2018.
