Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is set to secure a fourth term after his party came first and gained parliamentary seats in this week’s general election, according to an initial exit poll.
Rutte’s center-right VVD is projected to win around 35 of the 150 seats in parliament — two seats more than it won in the 2017 election.
The social-liberal D66 party, part of the current four-party governing coalition, came second, winning 27 seats — a big jump from its current 19. Geert Wilders’ far-right Freedom Party is on course to win 17 seats, according to the exit poll by Ipsos for national broadcaster NOS.
