Saints’ Drew Brees mum on future after playoff loss to Buccaneers

If Sunday was Drew Brees‘s last time on the football field as an NFL quarterback, the future Hall of Famer says he’s at peace with it.

“No complaints, no regrets,” Brees said after Sunday’s loss to the Buccaneers eliminated the Saints from the playoffs. “I appreciate all that this game has given to me.”

The 42-year-old Brees was visibly emotional walking off the field Sunday, blowing kisses to the limited number of fans allowed into the Superdome and glancing over his shoulder one final time before entering the locker room. However, he wouldn’t fully commit to retirement, saying he would take some time before making a decision on his future.

If Brees does retire, it will mark the end of one of the best quarterback careers ever. His 80,358 career passing yards in the regular season are the most in NFL history and his 571 touchdown passes are second all-time behind Tom Brady.

Brees has spent the last 15 seasons of his 20-year career with the Saints, with the biggest highlights coming in 2009 when he won the regular season and Super Bowl MVP awards, leading the Saints to their only championship in franchise history.
