Several shacks were destroyed after a fire broke out in the Falguni Bazar area of Salt Lake in Kolkata on Sunday.
Authorities said at least 10 fire trucks were deployed to put out the fire. Firefighters were still trying to control the blaze when this story went to print.
While no casualties were reported, many locals lost their homes, authorities said.
Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty said: “Temporary arrangements have been made for slum dwellers to stay in a community hall.”
