Saudi Arabia has asked Pakistan to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir issue by holding talks with India. The message was revealed in the joint statement released after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s meeting with Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman. Sharif was visiting the kingdom for his first foreign visit after taking office. While Pakistan has repeatedly tried to internationalise the Kashmir issue, India has called for a bilateral resolution that keeps foreign powers out. The Saudi statement is closer to India’s position on the issue than Pakistan’s. Does it mean Riyadh has picked India over Pakistan?
