SC issues contempt notices to Sindh authorities in KCR case | The Express Tribune

ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday issued notices of contempt to Sindh’s chief secretary and the railways secretary for not removing encroachments from the railway track in Karachi Circular Railway case.

A three-member apex court bench presided by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the Karachi Circular Railway case where it ordered both officers to submit a written reply within two weeks.

“Despite the court order, work on the [Karachi] circular railway has not been started for removing the encroachments,” the SC remarked.

The apex court ordered the provincial chief secretary, railways Secretary to ensure their attendance and also summoned the director-general of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) at the next hearing.

“If necessary, the prime minister and chief minister of Sindh will also be summoned,” the CJP said.

Bench member Justice Ijazul-Ahsan questioned how the general correspondence in the matter would proceed as five years had passed and KCR case still had not concluded.

There is nothing left for us to do, the secretary railways prayed upon the apex court.

“The Sindh government did not follow court orders by not removing encroachments thus the issuance of show-cause notices of contempt of court,” the CJP said. “You were given a chance to speak once. Should you be dismissed now?”
