The Supreme Court will hear an argument against the Kerala High Court’s order refusing to suspend the release of the controversial multilingual film “The Kerala Story” on May 15.

Senior lawyer Kapil Sibal said on Tuesday that the matter must be urgently brought before a court consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha.

Asked by the court whether the high court had made an order in the matter, Sibal said he had refused to stay the film’s release.

“We will hold it on Monday (May 15),” the bank said.

On May 5, the high court refused to stay the release of the film, saying that the trailer does not contain anything offensive to any particular community.

The high court took note of the producers’ claim that they do not intend to keep an “offensive teaser” containing a statement that “32,000 women” from Kerala converted and joined a terrorist organization.

He said that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) examined the film and found it suitable for public display.

The high court also noted that the producers posted a disclaimer along with the film that specifically says that it is a fictionalized and dramatized version of events and that the film does not claim the accuracy or truth of historical events.

“The Kerala Story” starring Adah Sharma was released in theaters on Friday.
