Scientists determine new dinosaur species from footprints in Brazil

SAO PAULO — Brazil’s geological service on Thursday introduced a brand new species of dinosaur, a speedy animal that lived within the desert in the course of the early Cretaceous interval.

The brand new species, referred to as Farlowichnus rapidus, was a small carnivorous animal in regards to the dimension of a modern-day seriema hen, or about 2-3 ft tall, in response to researchers. The invention was revealed in scientific journal Cretaceous Analysis.

Leonardi donated one of many footprint samples, discovered within the so-called Botucatu formation, a bunch of rocks fashioned by an historical dune desert, to Brazil’s Museum of Earth Sciences in 1984.
