Search resumes for missing St Ives man in Blue Mountains

Emergency services have restarted the search for a St Ives man who has been missing in the Blue Mountains since Sunday.

Police received reports at around 5:00pm that a canyoner had disappeared in the Wollangambe River, Mount Wilson, at around 3:00pm.

Police understand the 39-year-old was canyoning with a group when he disappeared.

Officers began a search of the water and surrounding areas, with the help of specialist police officers attached to Police Rescue and PolAir, as well as NSW Ambulance. The search was called off around 7 p.m. Sunday due to low light.

The search was originally scheduled to start at 7 a.m. but was pushed back to 9 a.m. Monday. A command post was established at the Mount Wilson Rural Fire Service.

Nine reported that wet weather was hampering efforts to locate the missing man, as thick fog, torrential rain and low visibility made it difficult for crews.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
