Seized MDMA seems to be urea – Occasions of India

BHOPAL: In a significant setback to Madhya Pradesh Police, the central forensic science laboratory in Delhi has stated that there have been no narcotics within the ‘MDMA medication’ seized by Gwalior police final 12 months that led to the arrest and detention of a person. That is the second blow to the state police within the case. In April 2023, the Madhya Pradesh excessive courtroom had ordered the DGP to pay Rs 10 lakh compensation to the accused, Rohit Tiwari, for wrongful confinement.
Tiwari was arrested on September 6, 2022, by Morar Police underneath the NDPS and Arms Acts.The prosecution claimed that Tiwari was arrested by SI Sumitra Tigga and her crew on particular details about contraband and that the cops had seized “720 gms of ‘MDMA’, two pistols and bullets” from them.
The pattern was despatched to the central forensic science laboratory, Bhopal, which stated there was no MDMA and that the powder was urea. Tiwari’s counsel stated that he was falsely implicated and had been in custody since his arrest. The excessive courtroom granted him interim bail for 2 months. The counsel then sought compensation for Tiwari for violation of his private liberty as a result of police’s wrongdoing.
The Gwalior bench of the excessive courtroom ordered that Tiwari be launched on bail and ordered the DGP to payRs 10 lakh compensation to him inside two months for wrongful confinement. The excessive courtroom instructed the DGP’s subordinate officers to not repeat such an irregularity sooner or later. “The DGP is free to get better the quantity from the erring officers,” the excessive courtroom stated.
After the excessive courtroom ordered compensation, police despatched seven extra samples to the central forensic science laboratory in Delhi. The report was acquired on Friday and has been submitted in courtroom. Sources say that the Delhi lab has not discovered any medication within the samples.
