ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Vocational Training took seriously on Tuesday the issue of vacant Pakistani professorships abroad under different nomenclatures such as Quaid-e-Azam professorship and Allama Iqbal professorship; Chairs of Urdu and Pakistani Studies.
The committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senator Irfanul Haque Siddiqi, who called the matter “criminal negligence.” He stressed the need for the matter to be thoroughly investigated, so that those responsible for this apathetic attitude can be reprimanded. He said that in sensitive times like these, it is crucial that Pakistan’s soft image is consistently built and international presidents would provide an important forum to promote this impression to the world.
The Committee was informed that a total of 14 presidents have been vacant for a decade in China, Egypt, Germany, the US, the UK, Turkey, Hong Kong, Iran, Jordan, Nepal and Kazakhstan.
The Committee, while taking strict note of the issue, expressed its concern in this regard, saying that Pakistan has missed a golden opportunity to disassociate itself from terrorism and crime and enter the folds of international academia to present to the world feats accomplished in culture. and literature. . He stressed the need for forceful action against this negligence that has held back the softer side of the country.
When deliberating on the matter, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Siddiqui, ordered that the ministry present a full report on the matter at the next meeting.
