WASHINGTON—Senate Republicans and Democrats are headed for a showdown over the federal government’s energy to confess immigrants into the U.S. on humanitarian grounds, one factor of more durable border restrictions GOP lawmakers are demanding to win their help for President Biden’s help bundle for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
Whereas bipartisan talks have made progress on tightening the preliminary screening course of for migrants searching for asylum—a central demand of Republicans—a separate coverage generally known as humanitarian parole has now emerged as a sticking level in negotiations, lawmakers stated.
