Sensex jumps 96 pts in the open, Nifty close to 16,956; Auto stocks fall, Apollo and Hindalco hospitals rise

Domestic stocks opened higher on Monday amid mixed global signals, as the key indices, the Sensex and Nifty, rose around 0.16 percent. The BSE benchmark Sensex index jumped 96.35 points, or 0.17%, to 57,623.45, while the NSE Nifty50 rose 27.60 points, or 0.16%, to open at 16,972. .65.

At 9:26 am, Sensex reversed its early gains and was trading nearly flat, while Nifty50 was up 14.50 points, or 0.09 percent.

Broader markets underperformed at the open, as the Nifty Smallcap 50 and Nifty Smallcap 250 plunged 0.47%, while the Nifty Smallcap 400 dipped 0.33% and the Nifty Midcap Select opened 0.32%. lower. Meanwhile, the Nifty100 was up 0.11 percent and the Nifty 200 was up 0.06 percent. India Vix, on the other hand, soared 2.19 percent at the open.

Auto shares fell 0.78 percent at the open as Mahindra and Mahindra were down 1.95 percent while Eicher Motors sank 0.84 percent. PSB shares fell 0.56 percent at the open, followed by consumer durables at 0.55 percent.

Meanwhile, the Nifty Healthcare Index jumped 0.43%, followed by Pharma stocks 0.35% and Metals stocks 0.29%. TI shares rose 0.17 percent.

Apollo Hospitals was the top gainer at the open, as shares soared 1.27 percent. Hindalco gained 1.08 percent, while ONGC rose 1.07 percent. Other higher-gaining stocks included Power Grid, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma and Maruti Suzuki.

Titan, Adani Enterprises, Axis Bank, ITC and Wipor were among the biggest losers in the opening trade.
