During their tenure, based in Islamabad with visits to other cities, the interns were engaged in researching public interest litigation, analyzing judicial spheres under Article 184 of the Constitution of Pakistan and participating in legal proceedings, among other activities. Their experience expanded beyond the capital, reaching the district courts of Rawalpindi and the High Court of Lahore, giving them a nuanced understanding of the juxtaposition between the Pakistani and American legal systems.
The internship initiative originated from a seminar at Harvard that included dialogues between Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of Pakistan and Justice Stephen Breyer of the United States. This seminar sparked Ahmad and Awan’s interest in working as summer clerks at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, broadening their understanding of their legal and cultural lineage.
