Shane Wright keeps scoring, adds a pair in his second AHL game

It looks like the 2022 Entry Draft’s fourth overall selection has got his swagger back, as Shane Wright has double-dipped in the American Hockey League.

Wright’s pair of markers on Thursday night, a powerplay snipe in the second period and a game tying goal midway through the third, gives him three goals in two games after he cashed in a nifty breakaway tally for the Coachella Valley Firebirds on Wednesday.

Coachella Valley eventually went on to defeat the Calgary Wranglers 4-3 in regulation, splitting the two game mini-series between the division rivals and moving to 8-4-2 on the season.

The Firebirds will take on the San Diego Gulls next, AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, before playing a pair against the Henderson Silver Knights — affiliate of the Vegas Golden Knights — at the beginning of December, after which Wright’s conditioning stint will conclude.

Kraken General Manager Ron Francis then says Wright will play “a game or two” with the NHL club, before a decision is made on sending him to the World Juniors, where he could feasibly team up with potential 2023 first overall selection Connor Bedard to form a dynamic Canadian pair.

Wright has played seven games with Seattle this year, registering just a lone assist while averaging 8:06 of ice time. Should he dress for ten games, the Kraken will burn the first year of his entry level deal.

The club could also choose to send Wright to the OHL, where the Kingston Frontenacs own the top prospect’s rights.
