Signal failure

On the train home, Yves and Kristina exchanged sharp whispers about who did the most housework. “How could you even pretend it’s you!” she snapped. “Well, guess what, K?” he replied, “I’ve been keeping a spreadsheet, and can prove it!”

But then the train stopped dead, and the sudden silence demanded respect. As the journey resumed, they remained silent.

And neither spoke during their single-file walk home from the station, nor before, or after, their TV dinner. The bedside clock read 2.47am when Kristina woke Yves with a shove to his shoulder: “You made a damn spreadsheet?!”
