Simone Biles will not defend her Olympic gold medal in floor exercise after officially withdrawing from the finals, USA Gymnastics announced on Sunday night.
Britain’s Jennifer Gadirova will replace Biles in the finals, which are scheduled for Monday. Biles is still undecided if she will compete in the balance beam final where she earned bronze in Brazil back in 2016.
Biles, who cited the need to improve her mental health after stepping back from three other events earlier this week, initially withdrew from the women’s team final. The U.S. ended up winning silver in the event.
Biles stated she was shaking before the team final and that she withdrew after realizing that the “mental’s not there.”
The star gymnast also withdrew from the individual all-around competition.
