Sky News was interrupted on Monday morning as the channel delivered a devastating blow to US President Donald Trump. Presenter Gareth Barlow shared that a US warship has turned back from the area of the Strait of Hormuz.
The reporter added that two missiles hit a US warship after it ignored Iranian warnings. However, he pointed out that the report had initially come from State media in Iran as he said: “I cannot, at this moment, independently verify that for you, but this is what we are hearing from the Iranians. We have not had any response as yet from the Americans, the White House or Donald Trump on Truth Social.”
According to local sources, “the warship turned back from the area”. Barlow pointed out: “This comes, of course, as Donald Trump has said that the United States would look to undertake an operation that would ease the passage of commercial vessels through the Strait.”
He went on: “Donald Trump has been saying that 15,000 troops have been utilised to enable the passage of these vessels.
“He claims it is on humanitarian basis, although analysts and experts claim that there is perhaps a different rationale behind that.”
Another reporter then chimed in, noting on the language used by Iranian reports. “When they say missiles, rather than drones, that always gets my hackles going,” he said.
“That’s because it could be these anti-ship missiles and they can be quite serious. But we actually understand that both of these warships turned away.
“So that would imply that they weren’t disabled so it could be that they are warning shots or something like that.”
The journalist continued: “This isn’t a coincidence. This is in direct response to Donald Trump talking about this new mission, this freedom mission.
“Therefore, it’s the first time that Iran has threatened ships this far out away from the Strait. Almost certainly, this will be to make sure that President Trump realises that there are consequences to any action being taken.
“Iran still has the capability to fire against American ships. It will be very interesting to see if America can actually follow through with this.”
