Sky News interrupted as programme issues tragic ‘breaking news’ update

Sky News was interrupted as the sheriff of Kerr County issued a devastating update about the flash floods in Texas. The programme was halted to confirm that at least 59 people have died in the floods, with Kerr County currently the worst affected area.

Kerr Country sheriff Larry Leitha shared the tragic news during a press conference on Sunday. He said: “Our search and rescue operations continue with a full response from local state and national first responders. At present there’s over 400 first responders for more than 28 NC’s that are working in Kerr County.

“We have more than a dozen canines working in and near the river and more than 100 air, water and ground vehicles are in the field right now working on this search and rescue.”

In a heartbreaking update, the sheriff confirmed that of the 59 people dead, 21 are children. He also revealed that 18 out of the 38 adults who have died are still pending identification and four children are also yet to be identified.

The sheriff also said that there are currently 11 Camp Mystic campers who are missing, as well as one councillor. Camp Mystic is a Christian summer camp which was hosting 750 children when the deadly flash flood swept down the Guadalupe River on Friday.

Leitha continued: “We extend our sincerest condolences and prayers for every single family affected by this tragedy and we continue to work around the clock to reunite these families. We will continue our search efforts until everybody is found.”

He then shared the number of the missing call centre which is currently open and available to anyone who needs to report a loved one missing.
