Skyscraper-Sized Asteroid Passing By Earth Next Week

On Jan. 18, an asteroid known as (7482) 1994 PC1 that experts say is about as big as two Empire State Buildings is expected to come within 1,231,184 miles of Earth.

Scientists are working on ways to potentially deflect planetary objects before they hit Earth. In September, a NASA spacecraft launched last year is expected to deliberately crash into an asteroid to change its motion in space.
