Slovakian prime minister tests positive for coronavirus

Slovakian Prime Minister Igor Matovič has tested positive for the coronavirus, his office said on Friday.

Matovič is the second EU leader to test positive this week after French President Emmanuel Macron said he had been diagnosed with COVID-19 on Thursday. Both attended last week’s European Council summit.

Council President Charles Michel and the leaders of Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Spain were among those who entered self-isolation as they came into close contact with Macron at the summit. Ireland’s Micheál Martin, Portugal’s António Costa and Spain’s Pedro Sánchez have since tested negative.

Over the weekend, Slovakia’s agriculture minister tested positive.
