A soldier was martyred during an exchange of fire with terrorists in North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, according to the army’s media wing.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release said that security forces carried out an Intelligence Based Operation (IBO) in the general area of ​​Mir Ali district during which an “intense exchange of fire” took place. against terrorists.

“Our own troops effectively attacked the location of the terrorists. However, during the operation, Sepoy Shakeel Shafqat, 21, a resident of Khanewal district, after having fought bravely, embraced martyrdom,” the ISPR said, adding that the area was being disinfected to eliminate the terrorists found. in the vicinity.

“Pakistan security forces are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the ISPR said.

Thursday, eight terrorists were killed by security forces during two separate IBOs in Jani Khel general area of ​​Bannu district and Datta Khel general area of ​​North Waziristan.

Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terrorist activities in recent months, especially in KP and Balochistan, after banned militant Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan term its ceasefire with the government in November last year.
